About Salema and the Beach Club

Salema Beach Club is a popular small holiday complex built around a large communal swimming pool. The complex has, in addition to the large shared pool, a small shop and bar/cafe. There is also a fully staffed Reception Office. All services are very family friendly. Salema village itself is a picturesque and small fishing village, with a beautiful long sandy beach. For a small village it has an amazing choice of around 10 restaurants, varying from the best European and Portuguese cuisine to the traditional snack/pizza bar. Situated on the edge of the beautiful Costa Vicentina nature reserve, this is an excellent base for walkers and other nature lovers. With Lagos, the local lively and historic town just 15 minutes drive away, and the award winning Parque de Floresta golf course just on the doorstep, Salema offers something for everyone, without the crowds that are found in other more obvious tourist areas.



Coast/Beach

In addition to Salema's sandy beach (a blue flag beach, with lifeguards), with its sun beds, showers and restaurants/bars, dozens of very secluded and often deserted coves and beaches within the National Park area of the western Algarve are just a short drive away.

The west coast with excellent surfing and is only 10 minutes by car, as is the holiday resort and beach of Praia da Luz, for those who like the more active beach resort with watersports and rides for all ages.

Golf

The Algarve boasts some of Europe's best golf courses - the nearest of which is Parque de Floresta Golf and Spa Resort, with it's 18 hole championship course, plus Tennis, archery, and spa, with a choice of restaurants is just a 5 minute drive from the apartment. Also the famous Palmares Golf, Penina Golf Resort, and the Boavista Golf Resort are all quite close to nearby Lagos, and just a few minutes drive away.

How to get there

The nearest airport is Faro (FAO) is just 100km (about 1 hour 10 minutes drive), most of which is now fast (Toll) motorway or dual carriageway.

A car is not essential, but it is useful if you wish to visit some of the more remote beaches or do any serious sightseeing.

Towns and nightlife

Just 15 minutes drive is the lively and historic town and port of Lagos, with its maze of cobbled streets, restaurants and nightlife. Boat trips leave from here daily during the summer and it is possible to go deep sea fishing, or you can take a boat ride to see the dolphins in the wild.



Sightseeing and activities

Besides the cliff walks through the Costa Vincentina National Park, there are beautiful sights to be seen just a short car drive away, including the Mountain of Monchique (about 40 minutes), Cape St Vincent, Europe's most westerly point, with its fort, museum, and lighthouse (15 minutes), Praia da Luz for watersports (10 mins), plus for the children particularly, Zoomarine dolphinarium and aquariums (40 mins) and choice of two waterparks around 35 mins drive. Great to take a drive to the magnificent Lagos Marina and view the spectacular yachts and cruisers that come and go from one of the excellent marina side restaurants. Or even take a sightseeing flight from Alvor (Portimao) airstrip just 25 minutes drive away and view the spectacular Algarve coastline from the air ...
